Selling on CaratBid
- How much does it cost to sell a diamond?
- Submitting a diamond and receiving offers is free for sellers. CaratBid earns its income from the buyer side of the marketplace.
- How long does it take to receive offers?
- Eligible submissions typically begin receiving offers within 24 to 48 hours, though this depends on the diamond and on buyer demand at the time. Some diamonds receive no offers.
- Am I obliged to accept an offer?
- No. You may accept one offer, decline all of them, or simply do nothing. There is no penalty for declining.
- Can I submit more than one diamond?
- Yes. Each diamond is submitted separately and receives its own reference number and its own offers.
- What if I don't know my diamond's grading details?
- Every grading field offers an 'Unknown' option. Photographs and a certificate, where available, help buyers assess the diamond.
Certificates and diamonds
- Does my diamond need a certificate?
- No, but a laboratory report from GIA, IGI or HRD generally gives buyers more confidence and can lead to firmer offers.
- Do you accept lab-grown diamonds?
- CaratBid currently specialises in natural diamonds. Lab-grown submissions are saved, but they do not enter the natural diamond matching process.
- Can I sell a diamond that is still in a ring?
- Yes. You can submit a loose diamond, a diamond ring, or other diamond jewellery.
Privacy and safety
- Who can see my personal details?
- Buyers never see your name, email address or telephone number. They see the diamond's characteristics, photographs and general location.
- What happens to my photographs and certificate?
- Files are stored privately and shared only with matched verified buyers for the purpose of making an offer. They are never public.
- How do you verify buyers?
- Buyers apply with their business details and are reviewed by CaratBid before being approved. Approved buyers can be suspended if they do not meet our standards.
After an offer is accepted
- What happens when I accept an offer?
- CaratBid introduces you and the buyer so that inspection, payment and delivery can be arranged. The final transaction is between you and the buyer.
- Can an offer change after inspection?
- Offers are made on the information provided. If a diamond differs materially from its description, a buyer may revise or withdraw an offer. You are never obliged to proceed.
- Does CaratBid handle payment?
- No. CaratBid introduces sellers to buyers; payment and shipment terms are agreed directly between the two parties.
